Calestano
From 10:00: - non-guided visit to the “Salti del Diavolo” (devil's jumps), a spectacular sedimentary formation of the Cretaceous period (80/82 million years ago) that is a 5 km long alignment of huddled rock needles and walls that emerge suddenly for several dozen metres above the surrounding terrain. The name comes from a curious legend about the devil and a hermit (at Calestano take the road for Chiastre -10 km, towards Berceto).

- visit to the Rocca di Sala fortress, which was built by the will of the Sanvitale family in 1461 and is full of fascinating stories of heroes narrated by the sixteenth century frescoes; subsequently inhabited by the Farnese family, who built the Potager Garden and by the Borbone family, who commissioned the neoclassic Oratorio dell’Assunta. Booking is required for a guided visit
- visit, by booking only, to the Pieve di Talignano parish church; built in the 12th century, it was annexed to a hospice for pilgrims because it is located on the Via Francigena. The edifice is aisleless and covered by a barrel vault and it still has the original structure in the apse, bell tower and facade. The rare lunette with the psychostasy, weighing of the souls, is outstanding.
- free visit to the Boschi di Carrega Regional Park, where nature meets history. Ancient chestnut woods, oak trees, conifers and beech trees and a very rich fauna surround various late eighteenth century buildings, the Casino dei Boschi, the residence of Maria Luigia, the Casinetto dei Boschi (court theatre), the Ghiacciaia (ice-house) and Maria Amalia's baths.
